Malaysia is one of the most diverse and welcoming countries we’ve traveled through in Southeast Asia. What we noticed most was how the different cultures naturally live side by side. Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous traditions are all part of daily life, and you can see that influence everywhere; in the architecture, the languages you hear, and especially the food.
Historically, the country was influenced by Islamic sultanates, regional kingdoms, and later European traders, which helped form the multicultural society you see today. Islam is the majority religion, and because of that, Malaysia feels very halal-friendly. Mosques are easy to find, halal food is widely available, and overall we felt comfortable and respected while traveling.
Beyond the cultural side, the nature here is incredible. From the ancient rainforest of Taman Negara to the cooler tea plantations of Cameron Highlands and the clear waters of the Perhentian Islands, there are many different landscapes to experience. You can spend time in a big city like Kuala Lumpur, go jungle trekking, or explore tropical islands.
For us, it’s this mix of culture, comfort, and nature that makes Malaysia one of the best countries to travel through.
