Our Hijrah was not a sudden decision or a single moment in time. It was a gradual process that began with our decision to travel through Asia for an entire year at the end of 2023 and throughout 2024. What started as a journey of exploration quickly became an eye-opening experience. Traveling through different parts of Asia allowed us to witness how people live with far less materially, often in underdeveloped areas, yet with a sense of contentment, community, and faith that felt deeply enriching.
Those experiences changed the way we viewed our own lives and priorities. The contrast between material comfort and inner peace led us to question what truly matters and how environment shapes daily life. Over time, these reflections grew into a clear intention to realign our lifestyle with our values, which ultimately led us to relocate to Lombok, Indonesia at the end of 2025. What began as travel slowly became the foundation of our Hijrah.
We wanted an environment that made it easier to prioritize prayer, family, and presence, instead of constantly feeling rushed or distracted. Hijrah became a way for us to realign our daily life with what truly matters, rather than an attempt to escape challenges.
Before settling in Lombok, we spent time in several other countries across Southeast Asia and the Middle East, including Malaysia and the UAE. Each place offered something unique, and every stay helped us better understand what we were truly looking for. Over time, we realized that we are drawn to a simpler lifestyle, one that is slower, closer to nature, an island with nice beaches and less centered around material comfort or status in a big city.
A strong sense of community became increasingly important to us. While countries like Malaysia and the UAE have many advantages, nowhere did we feel as genuinely welcomed as we did in Lombok. The warmth of the people, the humility, and the way faith naturally shapes daily life created a sense of belonging we had not experienced elsewhere.
That often leads to the question we are asked most: why Indonesia, and how should someone else choose a country if they are thinking about emigrating? For us, the answer was never about finding a perfect country, because such a place does not exist here on earth. It was about comparing what truly affects everyday life, such as faith, environment, culture, and cost of living, and taking the time to experience those places firsthand rather than relying only on information online. That way it felt less like a decision and more like a natural step.
After sharing our story on social media, we were surprised by the response from our community. We received many messages from people who also dream of moving abroad, but do not know where to start. Questions kept coming in about creating an online income, arranging visas, buying land or a house in Indonesia, and understanding monthly living costs.
That is exactly why we created this e-book. In it, we answer the most common questions we received, explain the steps clearly, and share what we wish we had known before making the move ourselves. We also talk openly about common mistakes and the personal lessons we learned along the way, so you can start your journey better prepared and with more confidence.
Are you thinking about moving to another country, but not sure where to begin?
When we started exploring about Hijrah, we quickly realized how fragmented the information was. Conflicting advice, unclear steps, and very little guidance rooted in an Islamic perspective made the process overwhelming.
That’s why we decided to document our entire journey — honestly, practically, and based on real experience.
Our Hijrah E-book offers clear, step-by-step guidance, including visa information, tips for creating an online income, structured checklists, realistic budget insights, and detailed preparation advice — helping you understand what Hijrah truly looks like from start to finish.
Hijrah does not have a single definition, and it does not look the same for everyone. For us, it’s not only about physical relocation. It is about moving away from what distances us from Allah ﷻ and toward a more intentional, faith-centered way of living.
Hijrah does not mean achieving a perfect Islamic lifestyle. It is a conscious decision to live with awareness, to make choices with purpose, and to accept that growth is a process. Whether it means moving countries or changing habits, careers, or priorities, the journey is deeply personal.
We share our Hijrah not as a guide to follow, but as an honest account of our experience, in the hope that it inspires and helps others reflect on their own path.
