A diverse country of islands, culture, and nature

Indonesia is our all-time favorite destination in the world. It’s the largest Muslim-majority country in the world and the nature is incredible, but the main reason we keep coming back is the people.

Eileen always says, “Indonesians don’t take life too seriously.” Not in a bad way, but in the best way possible. People are always smiling, laughing, chatting, and joking with each other. They don’t seem to get upset over small things, and there’s a relaxed atmosphere almost everywhere you go. We think the rest of the world could learn from them.

Indonesia consists of more than 17,000 islands, and every island feels different. You’ll find volcanoes, waterfalls, rice fields, rainforests, villages, busy cities, beautiful beaches, and a lot of mosques.

Java is perfect if you enjoy culture, history, volcanoes, and cities like Semarang, Bandung, and Yogyakarta. Bali is more international and busier, offering a mix of temples, cafés, and nature. Lombok is our favorite island with quiet beaches, waterfalls, small villages, and a strong Islamic identity, reflected in the island’s 8,000+ mosques.

Around 85–87% of Indonesians are Muslim, making it one of the easiest countries in the world for Muslims to travel to. Finding halal food is rarely a challenge, mosques are everywhere, and you’ll generally feel comfortable traveling as a Muslim. Although Indonesia is a Muslim-majority country, you’ll also find Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, and other communities, each with their own traditions and culture depending on the region you visit.
