One of the most common questions we get is: Where is the best place to stay on Lombok?
The answer really depends on your travel style and what you want to see. Lombok is a fairly large island with very different landscapes and experiences depending on the area. For example, if you want to explore both South Lombok and North Lombok, we wouldn’t recommend staying in just one place and making day trips across the island. You’ll end up spending a lot of time on the road. That’s why we would recommend splitting your stay between multiple areas. It allows you to see more of the island, spend less time traveling, and enjoy each region at a more relaxed pace.
Senggigi was once the island’s main tourist hub. Compared to Kuta, Senggigi feels more local and laid-back. You’ll see more local families and a more modest atmosphere.
We often recommend Senggigi to families and travelers who prefer a quieter atmosphere while still having plenty of restaurants, resorts, and facilities nearby. The town stretches along the coast, with beautiful sea views, beaches, and some of Lombok’s best sunsets.
Its location also makes it a great base for exploring the North and Central parts of the island, while Mataram is only about 20 minutes away.
