One of the most common questions we get is: Where is the best place to stay on Lombok?
The answer really depends on your travel style and what you want to see. Lombok is a fairly large island with very different landscapes and experiences depending on the area. For example, if you want to explore both South Lombok and North Lombok, we wouldn’t recommend staying in just one place and making day trips across the island. You’ll end up spending a lot of time on the road. That’s why we would recommend splitting your stay between multiple areas. It allows you to see more of the island, spend less time traveling, and enjoy each region at a more relaxed pace.
Senggigi was once the island’s main tourist hub. Compared to Kuta, Senggigi feels more local and laid-back. You’ll see more local families and a more modest atmosphere.
We often recommend Senggigi to families and travelers who prefer a quieter atmosphere while still having plenty of restaurants, resorts, and facilities nearby. The town stretches along the coast, with beautiful sea views, beaches, and some of Lombok’s best sunsets.
Its location also makes it a great base for exploring the North and Central parts of the island, while Mataram is only about 20 minutes away.

The 3 famous Gili islands are Trawangan, Meno, and Air. Whenever we feel like escaping the mainland for a few days, the Gilis are usually our first choice. The beaches are beautiful, the water is crystal clear, and the snorkeling is some of the best around Lombok.

Senaru is a mountain village in North Lombok. It’s quiet, but slowly growing in tourism, and most people stay here for 1–2 nights before continuing to Sembalun. It can also be visited as a day or half-day stop if you’re short on time.
Most visitors come here to explore the famous Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls or to start their Mount Rinjani trek.
Beyond hiking, Senaru offers traditional Sasak culture, scenic viewpoints, organic farms, and a much slower pace of life compared to southern Lombok.

Sembalun is one of the most underrated areas on Lombok and, in our opinion, deserves much more attention. Driving through the mountains and hearing the adhaan echo across the valley in such a setting feels truly special.

If you ask us where to find the most beautiful beaches on Lombok, our answer would definitely be the South. With its white-sand beaches, turquoise bays, and rolling hills, this is one of our favorite parts of the island.

Check with accommodation if the pool is completely private. Sometimes it’s not advertised.
Check the exact location on Google Maps. Some accommodations advertise themselves as being in Kuta or near the beach but are actually 15–20 minutes away.
Read recent reviews. Pay attention to comments about Wi-Fi, cleanliness, road access, noise from mosques or nightlife, and construction work.
Don’t underestimate travel times. Roads are generally good, but getting from the south to the north can take 2–3 hours. It’s often worth splitting your stay between two areas.
Consider the season. During the rainy season, accommodations with good road access and covered parking are more convenient.
Book early during peak season. The best hotels and villas can sell out quickly, especially during July–August and around major holidays.
